What is Small Talk?

It's the voice of the baby or very young child talking to his parents, or whoever is looking after him, about some of the difficult, highly charged and sensitive moments in the very early years; when feelings and emotions run high and frustration and exhaustion threaten to overwhelm even the most experienced of us.

It's insight into what goes on behind the tears and tantrums at those critical times.

It's further information about emotional development between 0 and 5, which can help parents and care givers to create and provide a secure and happy environment for the child and a more understanding response to his emotional needs.

How can The Small Talk Collection be used?

As a focus point in discussion groups. This unusual resource hits the spot and encourages people to acknowledge and talk about the powerful emotions and feelings of helplessness that a tantrum, a screaming baby or a challenging toddler may invoke. They bring parent and child closer together and are full of information about physical - and particularly emotional - development.

Great to give as hand-outs in baby massage groups/drop-in centres/parenting groups/antenatal classes etc.

An attractive and useful reference point to hang on walls in Children's Centres/Day Nurseries/Clinics etc.

As a training resource for childcare practitioners.
